Cosmetic Surgery Blamed in Death of Woman - CareFair.com

Updated Sep 24, 2011

An autopsy performed in the death of Maria Shortall revealed that a recent cosmetic surgery procedure was to be blamed. News reports on the Internet state that the mother of two had liposuction and the fat was then injected into her buttocks. It was determined that some of the fat entered her bloodstream thereby preventing blood from reaching the lungs.

The State Department of Health reacted by stating that the surgeon who performed the procedure, Dr. Alberto Sant Antonio, should not operate on any patient. It cites the failure of the doctor to provide a heart monitor, and the lack of emergency equipment as areas of concern. This is reportedly the second such death at the Alyne Medical Rejuvenation Institute, where the surgery was performed.
