Elderly Patients at No Extra Cosmetic Surgery Risk - CareFair.com

Updated Jun 3, 2011

For some time it has been believed that people over 65 were at greater risk of developing cosmetic surgery complications. A new study from Cleveland Clinic may put this idea to rest. According to online reports it was found that there was no additional danger to patients if proper screening procedures were followed.

The findings of the study will be available in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. It looked at over 200 women who had undergone facelifts. It was noted that further studies were needed for women in the 70 to 75 and over age group.

Dr. James Zins, a plastic surgeon at Cleveland Clinic sought to clarify the results of the study. ?It should not be generalized from the study that elderly patients can undergo a facelift operation with the same low complication rate as seen in the younger age group. Careful screening of the elderly patients and excluding those with significant co-morbidities led to the low complication rate,? he said.
