Lynn doc sees surge in plastic surgery for men By Jessica Trufant / The Daily Item - Daily Item

Home > Health Lynn doc sees surge in plastic surgery for men

LYNN -- Dr. Sheldon Sevinor of The Sevinor Center for Cosmetic Surgery in Lynn recently appeared on ABC?s show ?The View? to discuss the increased demand for plastic surgery by men.

According to Sevinor, who has been in practice for 35 years, more than one million men underwent cosmetic surgery in the United States in 2010, an increase of 88 percent from 1997. The top five surgical procedures for men are liposuction, rhinoplasty (or nose reshaping), eyelid surgery, breast reduction to treat enlarged male breasts and cosmetic ear surgery.

Sevinor said he started to see an increase in the number of men receiving plastic surgery at his practice during the late 1990s after he appeared on an episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show about married couples having cosmetic surgery together. With that publicity, the percentage of his male patients went from approximately 5 percent to nearly 25 percent.

?The show was a stimulus for men to feel like since its okay for their wives to change something to feel better about themselves, then it?s okay for men to also explore the options for plastic surgery,? Sevinor said.

Men previously felt embarrassed and guilty about the desire to change their appearance and Sevinor said they often entered his office through a private door into a separate waiting room. But now, he said men are often more open to talking about surgery than women.

Sevinor cited several other reasons besides social acceptance for the increased number of men pursuing cosmetic surgery. Surprisingly he said tough economic times have pushed men to go through with surgery, as it is seen as an investment, rather than a luxury.

?Men associate looking good with success. We are living at a time in the United States when there is so much unemployment, and men think that they can compete better in the job market if they look younger and better. Studies show that the better looking applicant typically gets the job,? Sevinor said, and added that increased access has made plastic surgery more reasonably priced. ?Plastic surgery is no longer just for the rich and famous. We try to make it affordable by offering payment plans and different options. If you want it bad enough, we want to make it happen for you.?

The aging baby boomer population which is more than 50 percent male also contributes to the increase in men getting plastic surgery. Though, Sevinor points out, men typically get plastic surgery for features they?ve dealt with for their whole lives, like overly large ears, while women usually get it to reverse the effects of aging.

?We are living longer today than ever before, and we are redefining the hallmarks of aging,? Sevinor explained. ?People are feeling more vital at 70 and 80-years-old, and when they look in the mirror they look old, but they don?t feel old, and plastic surgery can slow that aging down.?

While men are beginning to view plastic surgery as an acceptable method for self-betterment as women have for years, the approach Sevinor takes as a surgeon is a lot different for his male patients. He said it?s most important to perform surgery conservatively on men, and to make subtle changes that fit with each man?s ethnicity.

?Women want more of a visual change, where my male patients do not want to look like someone else, just a better version of them selves,? he said, and noted that the best compliment for a post-surgery male is when people notice that something looks better and different, but they can?t put a finger on exactly what it is. ?With a nose reshape, the second most common plastic surgery for men, you have to take into consideration their ethnic background. You don?t want an Italian or Greek gentleman to have a really small, turned-up Irish looking nose. It?s more important for men to look natural than women.?

Sevinor said there are also differences in the skin of each gender. Men have much thicker skin than women with higher vascularity, or more blood vessels. As a result men will swell more, and the surgery and recovery takes longer.

For both genders, though, Sevinor said it?s crucial to understand the psychology of the surgery, such as why he or she wants it and what his or her expectations are.

?It?s important for them to know that I deal with improvement, not perfection,? said Sevinor. ?When a man comes to me and wants lipo for fat on his love handles, or a face lift, I stress that surgery isn?t going to make a bad marriage better.?

The Sevinor Center for Cosmetic Surgery is located at Union Hospital in Lynn. Dr. Sheldon Sevinor can be reached at (781) 592-3632 or drsevinor@aol.com.

Human Barbie Gives 7-Year-Old Daughter Plastic Surgery Voucher as Present - Softpedia

Sarah Burge?s goal in life is to look like Barbie, the blonde Mattel doll, which explains why, at 51, she hardly looks a day over 25. For her daughter?s seventh birthday, she came up with the most original (in the sense of ?never heard of?) idea for a present: she gave Poppy a voucher for a breast job.

Burge is never the one to say no to plastic surgery, whether it?s on herself or any of her daughters. As it turns out, she plans on encouraging her youngest, Poppy, to do the same.

In a new interview with Closer magazine (as cited by the Daily Mail), Burge reveals she offered her daughter the present she?s been dreaming of for the past year: the promise of breast augmentation when she?s older.

That Poppy is only 7 right now matters very little, Burge points out: if she develops a generous cleavage on her own by the time she can legally go under the knife, Poppy can use the voucher for another procedure, whichever she wants.

?Poppy begged me for a [breast] job, so I gave her the voucher so she can have it after she?s 16, when it?s legal. If she develops naturally big [breasts], she can have something else done with it,? Burge says of the odd birthday present she gave her daughter.

?Poppy isn?t interested in bouncy castles or pass the parcel, so I splashed out on something a little more grown-up,? the ?Human Barbie? says.

Since Poppy saw ?all? her dreams come true on her seventh birthday, she didn?t get just the above mentioned voucher as a present: she also received a 450 pink Swarovski set, a 250 computer and a 4,000 spa break.

Poppy says she?s happy now and that she can?t wait to grow up and go under the knife to have her bust enlarged because she thinks her mom?s is ?pretty.?

Burge, one might as well note, is a self-confessed plastic surgery addict and has already spent 500,000 so far on trying to make herself look like Barbie. For her upcoming birthday, she will treat herself to 51,000 worth of more surgery.

?Some people think it?s controversial and I get angry when strangers say I?m a bad mother because I don?t think there?s any harm in giving her this gift,? Burge says in her own defense.

?Poppy is a normal kid who is good at sports and loves playing outside. Girls don?t want Snow White and Cinderella any more,? she adds.

Things have changed and little girls have other ideals now: ?They want to be WAGs and famous like Cheryl Cole and Lady Gaga. I?m just supporting her and making her dreams come true.?

Plastic Surgery Practice in New Jersey Seeing More Male Patients

Englewood, New Jersey (PRWEB) June 16, 2011

Dr. Richard A. D?Amico (http://www.drdamico.com) is noticing a rise in the number of men coming into his plastic surgery practice in New Jersey for cosmetic procedures. This increase suggests that more men are realizing the benefits of cosmetic surgery. Dr. D?Amico offers a variety of surgical and nonsurgical procedures to help men and women enhance their appearances and maintain a natural look.

"Two of the goals for any male plastic surgery procedure are to achieve natural looking results and to maintain a masculine appearance," says Dr. D?Amico. "I?m seeing an increase in the overall number of males coming in for consultations, and I?m looking forward to assisting them in reaching their cosmetic goals. With advancements in technology and procedural techniques, men are beginning to see how plastic surgery has the ability to enhance not only your physical appearance, but also your personal and professional life."

Dr. D?Amico?s practice sees a steady stream of women for procedures such as breast augmentation in New Jersey. However, he also specializes in procedures for men such as male breast reduction. Men that have experienced abnormal development of breast tissue often have issues with self-confidence in social situations. Dr. D?Amico assists the increasing number of males interested in this and other plastic surgery procedures with a specialized surgery plan to fulfill their immediate and long-term goals.

"Abnormal or increased development of breast tissue, also known as gynecomastia, typically involves liposuction, skin tightening, or a combination of the two," notes Dr. D?Amico. "More men are turning to this procedure because it?s easy and effective. A great option for men of varying ages, most can return to their daily activities within a few days of surgery."

He often recommends nonsurgical facial rejuvenation procedures such as dermal fillers and BOTOX Cosmetic for men who want to look younger without surgery. Dr. D?Amico says that he?s seeing a greater number of men opt for such treatments when they want youthful looking skin and an easy way to rejuvenate their appearances without surgery.

Surgical treatments for the face, such as eyelid surgery or brow lift, are also becoming more popular with men who want to take a few years off of their appearance. Dr. D?Amico modifies these plastic surgery procedures so that male patients don?t end up with feminine-looking results. "Just as I customize a woman?s breast augmentation by helping her select the appropriate breast implants in New Jersey, I also tailor a man?s procedure to achieve the most proportional, masculine, and natural result for him," states Dr. D?Amico.

"Men in New Jersey and across the nation are beginning to take advantage of the many benefits cosmetic procedures can provide," says Dr. D?Amico. "More men are turning to plastic surgery procedures to maintain a youthful and refreshed appearance so they can put their best foot forward every day."

Dr. Richard D'Amico (http://www.drdamico.com) is a board-certified plastic surgeon and 2008 president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Dr. D'Amico earned his medical degree from New York University and has years of experience in both cosmetic and reconstructive surgical procedures, in addition to extensive training through residencies in general and plastic surgery. Dr. D'Amico has received extensive recognition for his achievements, including numerous awards as well as several upper-level professional appointments, serving as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine and as co-chair of the ASPS Breast Implant Task Force, where he gave key testimony on breast implant safety to the FDA.

"Mommy Makeovers" from Plastic Surgeons in Boca Raton - SBWire (press release)

Dr. Arthur G. Handal of Boca Raton, Florida has dedicated the last twenty years of his career to achieving the most natural results possible in all of the surgeries he performs.

Boca Raton, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/22/2011 -- As cosmetic surgery has become an increasingly mainstream procedure, patients have also become more educated and demanding concerning their results. This is why Dr. Arthur G. Handal of Boca Raton, Florida has dedicated the last twenty years of his career to achieving the most natural results possible in all of the surgeries he performs.

"When I assess a patient, the two words that come to mind are restoration and rejuvenation," says Dr. Handal. He passionately explains that the fact that a patient entrusts their care to you is a privilege to be taken very seriously. Whether he is operating on a face, nose, breast or abdomen, he is adamant about the results being as natural as possible.

When it comes to facial surgery, Dr. Handal takes a very entrusting approach. During his consultation he asks the patient what their concerns are and also requests that they bring photographs of themselves during their more youthful years. "I examine the patient and their photographs to show them how their faces have changed over the years. There are changes in skin texture, fullness of the face, skin elasticity and changes in the muscle structure. By addressing each one of these issues, I can offer the patient procedures that can turn back the clock sometimes as much as thirty years and yet with a non-operated look."

How does the accomplish this? He does it by first restoring the correct anatomical placement of the muscles of the face and then by using minimally invasive endoscopic surgery, he restores the position of the brow to a more youthful position, and then tightens the skin. He believes that the eyes are among the most important feature of the face, with must be restored properly to give a bright, well rested and youthful appearance of the face. Once the surgical lifting is done, the youthfulness of the face is restored with fat grafting, using the patient's own fat to restore sunken cheeks, deflated lips and jaw lines. Over the years Dr. Handal has refined the techniques of fat grafting where we can achieve long term results without that "pumped up look." Finally, to address the skin, Dr. Handal add the finishing touches with laser resurfacing using his latest Fractional CO2 laser. "I feel that resurfacing the face is extremely important in facial rejuvenation and restoration because smooth, glowing skin is simply youthful," says Dr. Handal.

Dr. Handal's patients are evaluated according to their concerns or problems they address with him and he will correct their problems with the appropriate procedure. Facial rejuvenation can begin with a "liquid lift" using Botox, Dysport, and fillers or a combination of mini procedures under local anesthetic. Patients undergoing significant weight loss may also require face-lifting procedures at an earlier age due to stretching of the skin and muscle. According to Dr. Handal, patients are undergoing facial rejuvenation procedures at earlier ages than before so they will age more gracefully and the results will be more effective.

Dr. Handal extends the same philosophy and vision to his other procedures. He is well known for his rhinoplasty techniques and specializes in revision rhinoplasty. His patients who seek rhinoplasty surgery are both national and international and patients are referred to him by other plastic surgeons. "I feel the nose and is a defining feature of the face. When properly transformed, the newly sculpted nose should enhance all the facial features," says Dr. Handal. "After a rhinoplasty I tell my patients that although the improvements may be quite dramatic, it will also be natural and blend in with the surrounding features. Even the patient will soon forget what their original nose looked like."

The other specialization of Dr. Handal's practice is "Mommy Makeovers." This is where he resculpts a woman's body after the changes of pregnancy. When it comes to rejuvenating breasts, he will carefully asses the woman's proportions, listen to her desires and then give her what he calls the "does she or doesn't she look." The same concept goes along with tummy tucks. If the post-pregnancy changes cannot be reversed by diet and exercise, Dr. Handal will treat the problem with the appropriate operation, ranging from the mini-tummy tuck, the modified, or the full tummy-tuck - all with a G-string incision. He feels that anyone undergoing this operation should feel comfortable about wearing a bikini.

"I find my practice very gratifying. It has come to the point where I have operated on grandmothers, mothers and daughters, as well as sons - all from the same family. Once someone becomes our patient, my team and I stand behind our work, and the patient then becomes a part of our family."

Does cosmetic surgery help or damage people? - The Guardian

Last week Sarah Burge made headlines when she gave her seven-year-old daughter 7,000 worth ofvouchers towards cosmetic surgery when she's 16. Psychotherapist Susie Orbach blames the industry for fostering body hatred. Susanna Rustin brought them together.

Susanna Rustin: Did you mind being criticised for giving your daughter thevouchers?

Sarah Burge: I'm happy to confront my critics, I'm a professional person and anassociate of a cosmetic surgery company. To me it's no different from ifI was a car manufacturer, reserving a car for my daughter when she is 18.

Susie Orbach: How big is your company? What is its turnover?

SB: I'm not divulging that. We specialise in reconstructive surgery. Our surgeons work free of charge in Africa helping disfigured people.

SO: I'm interested in you talking about people in other countries who need reconstructive surgery because I'm aware of ordinary women and men feeling they are damaged in some way. Even though from the outside they look lovely, that is not their inner experience. And so they've been encouraged to seek a solution in transforming their bodies and now we're sending that idea out all over the world.

SB: Beauty is on the inside, not the outside, that is true, but that doesn't change how you feel when you look in the mirror. Psychoanalysis might help, but you've still got to look at yourself.

SO: What if a person is perfectly lovely on the outside and they don't experience that? We have a narrow view of beauty.

SB: I think beauty comes in all different shapes, sizes and ages. I'm just here to point people who don't feel good about themselves in the right direction.

SO: We've turned the body into a product and I feel troubled by that, not particularly for my generation although we feel we have to look 30 when we're in our 60s, but I really feel for youngsters who are growing up without feeling body stability at all. The pictures of labias in need of correction on cosmetic surgeons' websites strike me as being simply pictures of labias in all their variety. But from the moment they startto develop pubic hair, these days young women are encouraged to keep apre-pubescent look. It's become perfectly OK to take yourself off for a series of surgical procedures.

SB: But it is OK, it's not wrong, it's not illegal. I get thousands of emails from people who are not happy with the way they look and the majority of people I'vespoken to, there's always something they would change. I'd like to put a question to you, Susie, is there anything that you would change, given the opportunity? Or are you completely happy within yourself?

SO: I'm bound to be influenced by images like everyone else, but I'm also a woman of a certain age and I think that's important for me to accept ? Before plastic surgery became an industry, when it was a medical speciality, and somebody had a nose or breasts they really couldn't live with, for some people an operation did solve the problem. But now if we look at Argentina, inhealth plans you get "a plastic" every two years, you have an entitlement. It's a notion of body modification, you start with one and then you have another. That's a different idea, isn't it?

SB: I agree ? obviously when you see the benefits of one surgical procedure you think, what can I have done next? I'm a bit like the Forth Bridge and I'm the first to admit it, you get to the bottom and start at the top again. But you can get carried away, yes you can.

SO: There are huge amounts of misery on the one hand and profit on the other.

SB: You say people are profiting from it, but you're profiting from it as well. People who are unhappy with themselves, you're sitting here counselling these people and saying, "Look, you don't want to go and have plastic surgery, it's not the right route, it's this that and the other, you've got other issues going on inside there, we're going to try and treat that together." So you've got them coming backwards and forwards, loading up your bank account, so you'requite happy with that as well.

SO: I don't think people come to psychotherapy trivially, I think they come when they're in very great distress.

SB: But people don't trivialise surgeryeither.

SR: When did you have your first surgery?

SB: I had my first operation at the age of seven. I was born with a sticking-out earI considered to be a deformity. Even back then, I'm the first to admit, I was a vain little cow. Then I had plastic surgery because of a man. I was 29 and he almost killed me. I had my cheekbone and jaw smashed, my eye sockets, Iwasslashed with scissors, I looked horrendous and I lived in isolation for six years until I decided to take control. Ididn't have any money, so I took myself through university and nursing, until I ended up with my own consulting rooms in Harley Street. I then put a business proposal to leading plastic surgeons: Isaid, you put me back together again and if I'm happy with the results, I can refer patients to you. I became the first walking advert in Harley Street.

SO: Will you carry on having surgery all your life?

SB: Probably. I had liposuction under local anaesthetic the other day, and a facelift two weeks ago.

SO: Sitting with me, do you think this woman is so crazy, how can she be walking around looking like this?

SB: I don't sit in judgment on anybody, and no one should sit in judgment on me, although they do. A lot of people don't listen to what I say, they just think "airheaded bimbo, loads of plastic surgery, married a rich man, blah blah blah". I think if you're happy in your own skin, absolutely fabulous. If you're not, change is good.

SO: I think I'm terribly 20th-century in that I wish girls and boys could grow up feeling confident in their bodies. I look at kids a lot and they're all so gorgeous and so different, and I find it enraging that they come to feel they are inadequate and need to look more andmore like each other.

Susie Orbach is UK convenor ofEndangered Bodies. Details: endangeredspecieswomen.org. SarahBurge's book The Half a Million Pound Girl is published by Apex.

Breaking Down the Numbers: Trends in Plastic Surgery Show the Growth of Non-Surgical Procedures

Press Release Source: Advanced Aesthetics, PC On Tuesday May 31, 2011, 8:10 am EDT

ATLANTA, May 31, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Non-surgical procedures have dramatically outpaced more traditional cosmetic surgery in the past ten years. Even with plastic surgery advances, the more subtle and less costly changes offered by non-surgical products have wide appeal.

Has the downturn in the economy impacted the demand for cosmetic surgery in the US? According to Atlanta plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Feldman of Advanced Aesthetics, PC, the short answer is no. There has been steady demand for plastic surgery procedures. The industry has changed dramatically in the past ten years, however.

Non-surgical products, such as BOTOX (FDA approved in 2002) and Dysport (FDA approved in 2009), have radically altered the plastic surgery landscape in the last decade. Non-surgical procedures are now more in demand than more traditional surgical procedures. Going by the sheer number of procedures performed, cosmetic surgeons now perform non-surgical procedures 90% of the time. By contrast, non-surgical procedures accounted for only 26% of the procedures performed in 2000.

Statistics supplied by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) confirm that the top 5 surgeries in the Southeast region are breast augmentation, liposuction, eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty, and facelift. Nationwide, tummy tucks (abdominoplasty) replaced facelifts in the top procedure list. The top five non-surgical procedures in the Southeast region are BOTOX/Dysport, wrinkle fillers, chemical peels, laser hair removal, and microdermabrasion.

The Atlanta, Georgia, area reflects these national trends. Women compose a large majority of Atlanta plastic surgery patients, and breast augmentation is still far and away the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure requested. Non-surgical procedures, including wrinkle fillers like Juvederm, have outpaced more extensive surgical procedures. While non-surgical procedures are less expensive and require far less healing time, the results from non-surgical procedures are more subtle, superficial, and temporary.

Drs Feldman, Gronka, and Raniere offer two options for cosmetic enhancement. Plastic surgery Babylon - The Sun

Toe tucks - toes lengthened, shortened or narrowed to fit designer sandals

This is the latest must-have surgery for those who want to look perfect in their strappy sandals.

With Keira Knightly allegedly using a foot double, as her feet are "too big and veiny" and Victoria Beckham's bunions getting about as many column inches as her husband, it's not surprising that mere mortals are stressing about the appearance of their feet.

The "toe-besity" procedure list, costing from 3,000, includes:

Toe tuck - slims the little toe to help you fit into narrow shoes - can involve shaving the bone and fat reduction.

Toe slimming - removes fatty deposits that make the toes look uneven.

Toe shortening - reduces the length of toes (normally the second toe) so they form a perfect arc shape.

Foot lift - lifts the arches of your foot to make high heels more comfortable.

However, according to the American Orthopaedic Foot And Ankle Society, cosmetic surgery for feet is a risky proposition.

Work done? ... does Pamela Anderson owe figure to rib op? Right, Kerry Katona, said to have had a 'mummy makeover'

Work done? ... does Pamela Anderson owe figure to rib op? Right, Kerry Katona, said to have had a 'mummy makeover'

The chance of complications from these surgeries is high, including permanent nerve damage, infection, bleeding, scarring and chronic pain when walking. At its worst, foot cosmetic surgery gone bad could make it difficult for a woman to wear any shoes at all.

We came across one lady in the US who still couldn't walk on her left foot nine months after surgery and developed neck and back complications as the other foot took the strain. Her bills for the extensive physiotherapy she needed were not covered by her medical insurance and that, combined with being off work for months, sent her badly into debt. We would rather have ugly feet.

Mummy makeover 'gift cards' covering price of a boob job, nose job and tummy tuck

Confronted with celebrities Angelina Jolie and Katie Holmes bouncing back into shape seemingly seconds after giving birth, mummy makeovers are growing in popularity.

Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears and Kerry Katona are all said to have had them. Combine that with the dramatic rise in the range of cosmetic surgery procedures available, it is not surprising that gift vouchers have swiftly followed suit.

Get the low-down ... co-authors Penny Avis and Joanna Berry

Get the low-down ... co-authors Penny Avis and Joanna Berry

However, these can backfire. We came across a man who gave his wife a mummy makeover voucher and she was so offended she promptly left him. And another where it was so successful that the recipient woman ran off with her tennis coach. Proceed with caution.

With tummy tucks from 5,600, boob jobs from 4,000 and nose jobs from 3,000, nor is it a cheap option.

Armpit Botox and similar treatments for excessive sweating

A common pre-Oscar night or wedding day treatment, Botox costing from 350 is injected into the armpits to eliminate or reduce sweating for several months.

However, one of the side-effects is that sweat can then appear somewhere else, as the body still needs to get rid of it.

On the forehead, back of the neck and between the legs are common areas where this can occur instead - and that's certainly not a good look.

Designer vaginas to have the 'lady garden' of a 16-year-old again

There is an increasingly popular trend in women choosing to have these procedures which start at 2,500.

It is often linked to internet pornography creating unrealistic images of what women should look like downstairs - which if true, is a pretty horrifying incentive.

Toe the line ... even skinny Cheryl Cole has 'cankles' and right, Victoria Beckham has bunions

Toe the line ... even skinny Cheryl Cole has 'cankles' and right, Victoria Beckham has bunions

Jordan has confessed to having had treatment to her "lady areas" but said it was for medical reasons.

But it's not just for porn stars and celebs. The most recent NHS figures show a 70 per cent increase in the number of women having labiaplasty on the NHS, so the trend shows no sign of abating. We came across one example where a mother and daughter had this done on the same day then compared results. Too much information!

Eyelash transplants

This procedure works in the same way as hair treatment for balding men, where living hair follicles are grafted on to the upper eyelid.

Considered a "must-have" for women who lust for longer, thicker lashes or who have lost lashes through overuse of extensions (yes, this is possible). The surgeon injects the hair into the eyelids, normally under a local anaesthetic. After the treatment, patients have to wear goggles at night to stop themselves scratching them out in their sleep as they are so itchy. The "after" photos are very scary indeed - weeping, scabby, swollen and bruised eyelids, worse than a heavyweight boxer after 12 rounds.

Complications can include severe itching, eyelid infection, ingrown hairs and even inward turning of the eyelid against the eyeball.

The transplanted hair will also continue to grow like hair on your head, so will need to be trimmed regularly and curled to shape like normal lashes. Costs start at 3,500.

Ankle liposuction

"Cankles" happen where the calf meets directly with the ankle giving it a swollen appearance due to a lack of muscle or a build-up of fluid.

With ankle liposuction, fatty deposits are removed to trim and shape the ankle area.

However, as ankles are primarily made up of muscle and bone and contain a number of key nerves and veins, the procedure, costing from 800, is much more complex and risky than liposuction in other areas.

Cheryl Cole was recently photographed with cankles, showing that it isn't always related to weight.

Contour irregularities, nerve damage, blood clots and hanging skin are just some of the reported side-effects and the swelling can take several months to go down, rather defeating the object.

And if you thought these were a step too far, wait until you see what could be just around the corner due to popular demand...

Rib removal with tummy tuck to create an hourglass figure

There's a long list of celebrities who have been rumoured to have had this done: Cher, Jane Fonda, Raquel Welch, Tori Spelling, Pamela Anderson, Janet Jackson... the list goes on.

As far as we could see, none of the rumours has ever been proved to be true.

But our research showed that chat rooms still abound with people seeking out where they can get it done - despite the fact they wouldn't be able to breathe properly, bend or drive for several weeks and that side-effects can include collapsed lungs, nerve damage, perforation of the diaphragm, infection or pneumonia.

Wilmington Plastic Surgery to Host Jacksonville Beauty Event - PR-USA.net

Wilmington Plastic Surgery is hosting A Summer of Spectacular Beauty on June 21, 2011, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., at the Jacksonville Country Club. The evening?s activities will feature a unique opportunity to learn about cosmetic solutions from board-certified plastic surgeon Mark Morgan, MD, FACS.

Following a valuable informational seminar, Dr. Morgan and Dr. Jeffrey Church, MD, DDS, FACS and their staff of nurses and aestheticians will hold a Q&A session and one-on-one consultations. Wine and hors d?oeuvres will be served. "Summer of Spectacular Beauty event corresponds with the summer solstice, so we thought it was the perfect way to kick off the social season. Nationally, cosmetic procedures see an annual spike when the weather warms up, as people want to look as rejuvenated as they feel after winter. Summer means bathing suits and more bare skin in general, so there is usually a rise in procedures ranging from liposuction and breast enhancements, to laser hair removal and Botox injections," said Guy R. Williams III, CMPE, Practice Administrator for Wilmington Plastic Surgery.

Participants interested in booking procedures will receive exclusive discounts on everything from non-invasive treatments to surgical procedures, including significant savings on all cosmetic surgeries, BotoxTM injections, dermal fillers, facials, spa laser treatments, skin care products, clinical grade makeup, and LatisseTM eyelash enhancer.

Additionally, the first 15 people to arrive at the event will receive a goody bag filled with products and savings certificates, and a raffle of ObagiTM and Skin MedicaTM products will be held.

Interested participants must RSVP no later than Friday, June 10, by calling Brittany Pierce at 910-344-1220 or by signing up online at wilmingtonplasticsurgery.com. Space is limited and a sell-out is expected, so interested parties are encouraged to sign up right away.

The most established practice of its kind in the region, Wilmington Plastic Surgery has been serving southeastern North Carolina for more than 25 years. Together with a highly experienced staff of nurses and technicians, the four board-certified plastic surgeons offer patients a complete range of surgical and non-invasive cosmetic procedures.

Woman dies during cosmetic surgery - MiamiHerald.com

Marie Shortall had saved up the $3,600 she needed for the liposuction. She made her appointment at the Alyne Center for Cosmetic Medicine in Weston for Saturday. And she kept the whole thing a secret from her teenage daughter.

But while in the midst of the procedure, Shortall, 38, stopped breathing. She was taken to Cleveland Clinic Hospital, where she was declared dead.

?No one should have to go through the pain my family is feeling,? her daughter, 15-year-old Vania Briones, said Tuesday.

No one from the Alyne Center returned calls for comment Tuesday afternoon, nor did the facility?s owners Lynne Ulevich and Dr. Alberto Sant Antonio.

It is unclear who was performing the surgery, but according to Florida records there have been no complaints against Sant Antonio or the facility.

Homicide detectives from the Broward Sheriff?s Office are investigating Shortall?s death.

According to BSO, an employee at the Alyne Center made a 911 call at 3:10 p.m. saying that a woman had ceased breathing.

The Broward Medical Examiner?s Office conducted an autopsy Monday, but has yet to establish a cause of death.

Attorney Michael Freedland said Shortall had gone to the Alyne Center for liposuction around her abdomen area.

?$3,600 is a lot of money to kill a woman,? said Freedland, who is representing Shortall?s family. ?If we find out something wrong that shouldn?t have happened, we will bankrupt the facility and take their licenses.?

Briones said she hopes her mother?s death is the last time someone dies undergoing cosmetic surgery.

?I?ll miss my mom forever,? Briones said.

Shortall?s death is not the first time a patient has died during cosmetic medical surgery in South Florida.

Just last month, Rony Wendrow, 61, died while having her neck and eyelids tightened at Strax Rejuvenation and Aesthetics Institute in Lauderhill.

In December 2010, Lidvian Zelaya, 35, died after problems arose during what was to be a simple procedure transferring fat from her waist to her buttocks.

In September 2009, Rohie Kah-Orukotan, 37 and a mother of three, underwent several seizures during a liposuction operation at Weston MedSpa before being declared brain dead.

In 2002, Olga Myers, a 42-year-old real estate agent, died while undergoing a face-lift at the Cosmetic Surgery Center in Hollywood. State regulators found that no licensed anesthesiologist or nurse anesthetist was present during the surgery.

And in March 2001, Vera Lawrence of Carol City died after too much silicone was injected in her buttocks during a ?pumping party? at a Miramar home.

Work at hospital, get free cosmetic surgery in China - Deccan Herald

The students would work as nursing helpers, cleaners, security guards and receptionists, the Shanghai Daily reported.

"We have 10 positions for students who, after working for a month, will be entitled to free plastic surgery worth up to 5,000 yuan (around $770) and a 5,000 yuan discount on more expensive services," hospital official Liu Qi was quoted as saying.

A student said she was very happy to hear about the offer and dreamed of having jawbone reduction surgery, which costs around 30,000 yuan.

"It's very expensive and it would be good if I can cover certain costs myself," said the student named Yang. "A good appearance is important for finding a job and for future development."

However, an academic has dismissed the offer as a " public relations stunt".

Gu Xiaoming, a sociologist from Fudan University, said everyone has the right to look as good as they can, but questioned the hospital's motives.

"Businesses shouldn't seek to attract students by offering unnecessary products such as plastic surgery," he said. "This is actually just a PR stunt by the hospital."

    N. Myrtle Beach underground cosmetic surgery ring busted - TheDigitel

This past weekend an underground plastic surgery operation was discovered at the Ashley Park apartment complex in North Myrtle Beach.

Sunday, June 19th the North Myrtle Beach police served a warrant to the residents at apartment 1206 in Ashley Park. Three people were taken into custodyafter a recent victim of this little underground ring was admitted to the hospital due to complications of a botched liposuction this past Friday. The 19-year-old victim was bleeding and in pain after getting her legs, arms and stomach lipoed for the price of $1500 cash.

    30

The victim made contact online and then met two of the three unlicensed doctors at the Myrtle Beach Mall on Thursday June 16. She was taken by "old model Ford Explorer" to the Ashley Park apartment complex. After the procedure, the victim passed out and awoken to the alleged assailants taking her back to her home in Myrtle Beach.

We were notified about this due to the small town rumor-mill, but sought confirmation and obtained the police report. North Myrtle Beach spokesman Pat Dowling provided us with the report and mug shots of the suspects. Dowling notes in his email to us that this, "sort of activity is highly unusual for this area, apparently it is more common in southFloridaand other locations.?" he goes on to say, "People need to know that there are no shortcuts when it comes to obtaining cosmetic surgical procedures. Not only were these people not trained or licensed for the procedures they were engaged in, there was minimal effort to sterilize equipment used.?"

The three suspects were arrested and are being charged with Assault and battery of high and aggravated nature, practicing medicine without a licence and accessory before the fact -felony. The suspects are: Adriana Sofia Chica Del Carmen Neibles, 41, Miguel Andres Trujillo Orozco, 31?, and Nubia Trujillo Rojas?, 41.

Male Plastic Surgery On The Rise (VIDEO) - Huffingtonpost.com

Plastic surgery: not just for the ladies!

"Good Morning America" took a look at men who go under the knife -- apparently, facelifts among the dudes have increased 14 percent, liposuction rose 7 percent and eyelid surgeries are up 15 percent. And 1.2 million guys had a little something done in the last year.

David Culpepper, 59, for example, had a facelift and a chin implant a few months before wedding because he lost weight and had extra skin. Michael Sean, who appears to be in his 20s, is a regular Botox user, telling cameras, "I definitely feel like, you know, people who take pride in how they look...get far."

Surgeon Dr. David Hidalgo cautioned that facial work on men can be trickier, explaining, "The structures are bigger, the skin is thicker, it generally takes a lot longer to do the surgery."
