OKLAHOMA CITY?
For the past few years, more and more people have become injected, implanted, tucked and tightened with everything from Botox and Liposuction to chin and cheek implants. But people aren't the only ones going under the knife.
Typically, if an animal is going under the knife it and it's outside of neutering or spaying, it ends up being a procedure that is breed-specific.
"The most common procedures are ear croppings and tail dockings," veterinarian Dr. Brett Boatsman said. "Cutting the ears, so instead of folding over, they stand upwards or stand erect. Tail docking is shortening of the tail."
But pet surgeries have gone beyond seeking to make your pet best in show and more and more animals are going under the knife for cosmetic reasons.
That squished little Pug face that looks so cute could cause your pup some problems when he gets older, Now, there's a nasal passage procedure for that.
"If you look at a normal dog, they have a round opening to their nose. The dogs that have the flattened faces, often just have the little slits for nostrils," Boatsman said.
What about those not-so-common pet procedures, like tummy tucks and chin lifts? That might happen in Beverly Hills, but not in Oklahoma City.
If Fido is getting a little chubby Boatsman advises to skip the tummy tuck.
"We actually have some weight loss medications that you can use in dogs," he said.
And if your pooch's wrinkles are causing him irritation, skip the Botox, too.
"Bulldogs will get infections in the skin folds, where they have the wrinkles in their face and we can go in there and reconstruct those wrinkles," he said.
If you took your dog in to get neutered, you can fill the void of his manhood with neuticals ? bean-shaped silicone implants.
"There's a caveman psyche there that they've got to have them," Boatsman said.
The implants range in size from petite to extra-extra large.
