Pet owners have become quiet conscious about the appearance of their pets and are taking up cosmetic surgeries for their pets. The insurance company, Petplan, revealed that claims worth 1.5 million were made previous year, by the pet owners for making their pets undergo surgery.
The Company revealed that in the year 2010, 500 pets had undergone cosmetic surgery of nose, facelifts and eye lifts, so that the pets can see and breathe easily. The Company claims that there has been an increase by 25% in this segment.
As per Petplan vet Brian Faulkner, ?So-called plastic surgery is something we have to do regularly to improve the quality of lives in the pets we see as well and repair injuries and deformities?. He further explained the need for commencing such surgeries on pets. According to Dr. Faulker, facelifts are needed in breeds with excessively loose eyelids, skin embedded for wounds, soft palate trimming in short faced breeds.
Mr. Faulkner further revealed that the pets in the UK need to undergo cosmetic surgeries because of the medical disorders and not out of appearance consciousness. The pet cosmetic surgeries originated in the US where chin lift treatment became the most popular in 1990s.
