Google Labs just released a nifty new data tool called Correlate that lets you compare any two search terms to visualize their correlation, or submit your own data set/time series and find the search terms most closely correlated to your data. It came out of the project Google.org did a while back to use trending search terms related to influenza outbreaks in an attempt to predict outbreaks.

I quickly posed a few search combinations to see what correlates and found that searches for retirement correlate fairly well with searches for plastic surgery. This I would not have expected, but it makes sense.

Try it yourself and let us know what you find. We?re going to keep playing with it, too, seeing which of our billionaires or Global 2000 companies correlate.

Thanks to Nathan Yau at FlowingData for flagging it.
